Drenched In Success

Gary Bastian of The Watercart Specialists (TWS) needed to slash tanker operating costs. He designed his new water carts to drench a track up to 50 metres wide, significantly reducing the time taken to wet down large areas.

When he set up his flash new Mercedes based water carts he looked for a pump that would deliver ample water to feed the three fixed sprayers. He opted for a big Aussie QP 4” high pressure pump powered by a Kubota 9.5HP diesel engine.

Bastian set up the 10,000 litre water carts to fulfil earth works dust suppression and water transfer duties in the most efficient form possible. The Rapidspray 10,000 litres poly tank fits snugly on the Mercedes cabin chassis with the Aussie 4” high pressure pump mounted at the back.

“The Aussie pump is controlled from inside the cab, so it’s easy to manage and even warns the driver when it’s low on oil,” said Bastian. “The Kubota diesel engine purrs at half its normal rpms and yet the pump is still soaking ground 20m either side of the cart,” he said.

Apart from its great pressure and flow characteristics the 4” Aussie QP402SL will suck from 8.4 metres enabling TWS drivers to load from creeks, dams or streams, if necessary. Fast priming is important and the QP402SL Aussie can prime in as little as 15 seconds!

TWS hires the water carts out for dust suppression work on road construction sites and for subdivision works. The trucks are able to cover more ground using less fuel and taking less time, and are as popular with his customers as his own drivers.

“The guys have been amazed at the difference a 4” Aussie pump makes. It means less trekking up and down on site,” said Bastian. “These trucks are never home, they’re great earners,” he said.

Australian Pump Industries offer Australia’s most extensive range of self priming centrifugal pumps for water cart applications. These include both diesel and petrol drive self priming pumps. More recently, the company pioneered the introduction of hydraulic drive water tanker pumps.

Aussie Quik-Prime pumps are used on tankers of up to 22,000 litre capacity and are becoming increasingly popular for their fast priming, high flow and high pressure characteristics. They also come with a unique Aussie Gold five year warranty against faulty workmanship or material.
