Model: Tsurumi B series submersible pump
Tsurumi submersible sewage pumps are well known around the world for their advanced design and heavy duty construction. Australian distributor, Australian Pump Industries, are in the process of relaunching Tsurumi’s B series “channel impeller” style submersible sewage pumps. These super tough, reliable pumps are designed specifically for heavy duty sewage and waste water handling applications.
Tsurumi’s B series pumps are available from 50mm to 800mm discharge bores and with flows of up to 150,000 litres per minute. The largest pump in the range is driven by an enormous 110 kW motor.
The company builds the pumps at their state of the art roboticised plant in Kyoto, where they have the capacity to manufacture up to one million submersible pumps per year. Their heavy duty sewage pumps are used throughout the world, and have proved themselves in applications throughout South East Asia, Europe and North America.
“Tsurumi understands the need for reliability in heavy duty sewage pump design,” said Aussie Pumps’ Craig Bridgement. “The products are loaded with features aimed to extend working life, and provide operators with the lowest possible through-life support costs” he said.
A unique double mechanical seal with two seal faces containing silicon carbide, operate within an oil chamber to provide optimum seal life. The dual seal arrangement eliminates spring failure caused by corrosion, abrasion or fouling. Elimination of this problem extends seal life, and prevents the loss of cooling to the bottom seal faces during dry run conditions.
Tsurumi’s “Oil Lifter” design, patent pending, was developed as a lubricating device to increase mechanical seal life even further. Utilising the centrifugal force of the shaft seal, the Oil Lifter forcibly supplies lubricating oil to the mechanical seal and continues to supply oil to the upper seal faces, even if lubricant falls below the rated volume. It not only reliably lubricates, but cools as well, maintaining a stable shaft seal, and extending time between services.
The motors used by Tsurumi are a dry type squirrel cage induction design, housed in a water tight casing. They conform to insulation classes B, E or F. In each of these insulation classes, all standard pumps can be used in ambient temperatures of up to 40ºC.
The motors are fitted with a Circle Thermal Protector (CTP) in the smaller range of pumps where a control panel is not likely to be provided. The CTP is integrated in the motor housing, and directly cuts the motor circuit if there is an excessive heat build up or an over current caused by electrical or mechanical failures.
An MTP (Miniature Thermal Protector) is also embedded in each winding of the B series motors. These MTPs are connected in series and their wires lead out of the motor. Should the winding temperature rise to the actuating temperature, a bi-metal strip opens to cause the control panel to shut the power supply. The MTPs are supplied in B series pumps on all 11 kW pumps or over. CTPs are supplied on the lower range pumps, i.e. under 11 kW.
For 22 kW pumps and over, a stainless steel electrode type leaking sensor is standard equipment. It senses water incursion into the oil chamber, and brings the pump to a halt in conjunction with the control panel.
Tsurumi have also paid particular design attention to cable entries. Their unique “anti wicking” block design at the cable entry section of the pump prevents wicking along the strand of the conductor itself. It does this by stripping each conductor back and sealing it in a moulded rubber or epoxy “potting” between each strand of the conductor.
Tsurumi offer a wide range of connection options including standard screwed or flanged elbows and guide rail kits. A “dry well” option is available as well.
The big open channel impeller, the heart of the series has a wide passage that extends from the inlet to the exit of the impeller. This design allows the pump to pass solid matters from inflow to discharge with minimal blockage.
