Australian Pump is well known to Piggery operators, as a leading supplier of effluent pumps. The company’s cast iron pump range with 316 stainless steel impellers have been on the market for some time.
“Based on the feedback we were getting from piggeries around the country, we decided to invest heavily in 316 stainless steel pumps”, said Aussie Pumps Chief Engineer John Hales.
The result is astonishing with a range of 316 stainless steel self-priming, centrifugal pumps, particularly designed for handling aggressive liquid effluent. There was a requirement for more reliability in handling piggery wastewater, without the danger of both corrosion or abrasion. The 316 stainless steel is from the Austenitic group, with approximately 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel!
Even now, the company is considering experimenting with Molybdenum as an added ingredient into the material. That addition also will provide even better corrosion resistance in environments containing chloride.
BIG PUMPS TOO
Smaller operators have been focused on close coupled model B3XRA-X electric motor pump versions. Now there’s real interest from larger operations in Aussies, big stainless steel 4-inch pump.
“The B3XRA 3-inch version has a maximum flow of 1400 litres per minute when matched to the close coupled monoblock style 5.5-KW heavy duty 415-volt electric motor. Bigger versions are also available in 7.5 KW, producing 1500 litres per minute flow!
The three-inch pump also has excellent high-pressure capabilities with a maximum total head of 31 metres. The biggest stainless-steel pump in the range, model B4XRA-X is powered by a 15 KW 3 phase 415-volt motor and is capable of 2,120 litres per minute flow!
“We are targeting bigger operators in the business and our plan is to make sure that their pumps can handle high volumes of compressible solids laden liquid. Total head available from the big 4-inch pump is 29 metres, close to a 40 PSI”,said Hales.
Pumps are fitted with carbon mechanical seal, with an aluminic counter face and nitrile rubber for long trouble-free operation. The casing of the stainless of the mech seal is also in 316 grade stainless steel. Viton seals are available as an option and are specified by some operations based on the analysis of the liquids being pumped.
Hales is proud of the development of these new stainless-steel pumps and the way they prime automatically based on their very good self-priming ability.
“A vertical lift of 6 metres is easy for these big self-priming pumps with priming tank built into the casting. Stainless steel castings are a challenge to process but what we’re seeing now in the quality of the castings is truly excellent. It’s a major step forward for piggeries and the beauty of it is with high volume expectation, prices are more than reasonable”, he said.
